Girls State is a leadership program. Such structures as
dress code are designed to maintain the standing and
integrity of the program, and to serve as a reminder to
citizens of their role as leaders who are expected to hold
to standards above the common and ordinary.
Plan on one outfit for every day with a change for special
activities.
Extremely short clothing is not acceptable. Strapless or
single (spaghetti) strap tops and dresses, with the
exception of prom dresses, are not permissible attire for
the week unless worn with a jacket or sweater.
T-shirts with the Girls State logo are the only permissible
t-shirts for sessions. No jeans and no shorts during
sessions. If you choose to wear a Girls State t-shirt, you
must wear either a skirt or dress pants (including khakis)
to complete your outfit.
We are sure you are proud of your bodies, but your chests,
mid-riffs, and bottoms must be covered during this week.
Bring comfortable shoes for walks to the capitol, banquet,
and across campus. It is recommended that you bring tennis
shoes for walking and upon arrival at your destination
change into dress shoes.
And now for a word about flip flops. Flip flops that are
clean, gently worn, and made of materials other than
plastic are acceptable to wear to sessions.
